I think that (with the subjects consent, of course) its fine. Whether your religious or not, its still inhuman to let a person suffer a relentless and incurable pain, they must be relieved of it - even if it means defying god.

I think one needs to be able to decide whether it's worth to continue living or not. It's monstruous to let one suffer in terrible pain without any possibility of recovery, when that very person begs for the final rest. The same applies to people that lost their consciousness and now they are like a vegetable, never to return to real life. In this case, the closest ones should decide.

I can't think of a single half good reason not to allow them die at will. Respecting life? If you really respect life, you should respect it to the end, and the end of life is death. Religion? Even worse. This is not even a rational reason, it's sheer stupidity. Would that god of theirs want its creations to suffer? Isn't that what the devil of theirs wants? What's the difference between god and devil, then? Should you care for your god if he lets you suffer like that? Why should you trust in it? Why should you believe in it? Does believing change the fact that you are suffering a terrible pain which ends with death? Should you really trust the church more than proven Science and you own inner feelings and common sense?

The day I notice I'm starting to die, and all that is left for me is suffering, I'll say farewell to my family, friends, and loved ones, and power off. (Not going to happen anytime soon, though!)

Noun. A gentle and easy death; bringing about this, esp. in case of incurable and painful disease.

Many religions disagree with this, and its sparked quite a few debates over whether its right or wrong.

IRT Shini, Xellos: Euthanasia is an to allow people to die to avoid suffering. Most mortals ask for it when they are in pain and can't be recovered, but doctors, pressed by the church, do their best to keep them alive as long as possible, prolonging their suffering. Most religions say euthanasia (and suicidal) are the worst of sins, because they reject the life god gave them.

Death ends everything, including pain and suffering. Whats wrong with that? Death can be a good thing. Think about it. Why do people believe hell is such a horrible place, theoretically? Because hell is suppose to be aplace for ETERNAL suffering, where DEATH DOES NOT EXIST. It is the ultimate punishment people could thought of, so its called hell, right? Whats the difference between suffering and wishing to die in hell and in hospital? Turn on some heater and they got themselves a nice artificial place for ultimate torment.

I myself fear getting old. In looking at all the aged, i can see that they only really live on to reminisce on their happy memories as they face impending death, as slowly or quickly as they take it.
Its that sad little daydream im sure everyone has once in a while, where your at your lifes end and looking back on the roads taken. It scares me, but i wake up from it remembering that anything in life can happen. "I can change my future; it doesnt have to end". "Anything is possible". These things can be said to ease ones conscience.

Of course, i know that i will get to the end eventually, as everyone does (bar some crackpot scientists). Thats about the point that one would hope god does exist, along with his ever fabled heaven and hell. You'll find a lot of old people in todays society believing in god for these reasons. Even if they didnt before, they would want to now.
Then, there are those who dont want to even get to that position, in knowing that all religion is complete rubbish. They take their own lives to avoid such misery.
I read in the local newspaper recently that a man and woman, both in their 40's (husband and wife for the longest of time) had decided to carry out this course of action. One day, they just left, leaving a note behind telling their family and friends that they couldnt bear to become old. Later, the man was found dead in the English Channel. The woman was never found.
This is something i believe anyone has the right to do if they see fit, and no religion can stop them.
When it comes down to the issue of euthanasia, people not only wish to end their lives to stop pain (be it as a consequence of age or disease), but some would prefer to end it before they reach it.
I personally dont think this is the right way to go, even if it is ones right to; for example, the couple mentioned above could have lived another 15+ years before suffering the consequences of age, maybe more.
So when faced with the two options: end life before the suffering or end life during the suffering, i would choose the latter rather than the former. I would want to live to my full potential before my life comes to an end, however it concludes.

Until that time, i'll set my mind to enjoying and making the most out of the time i have.

I don't care what other people do with this, but I'd never kill myself, in any way or form. I don't believe much, but I do _think_ (but am not sure of) that this is my only shot at what I'm doing, and to lose hope to the point that you don't go on is just something I can't imagine myself doing. You can have pain and suffering, but as long as there's some reason to go on (and there always is, IMO), then I'm just not gonna do that.
